2020 Scott Wade Memorial Scholarships Announced

Park Ridge (May 13, 2020) – Four individuals were honored with a Scott Wade Memorial Scholarship by Park Ridge Soccer Club at the 2020 Maine South Senior Honors Night.

Park Ridge Soccer Club has been recognizing accomplished seniors with impressive involvement in soccer as referees and players for 24 years.

“It has been incredibly rewarding to see how soccer has had a positive influence on our players well beyond the fun and skills they receive from playing and refereeing. Our seniors consistently highlight their skills in leadership, organization, communication, negotiation and other life skills that they developed through playing and officiating soccer,” stated President Peter Mierzwa.

The scholarship honors the memory of Scott Wade – a Maine South graduate, who played youth soccer, Maine South varsity soccer, college soccer at St. Olaf College and was an active referee. Tragically, while refereeing a youth soccer match in 1996, Scott was struck and killed by lighting.

The PRSC Board received an exceptional pool of candidates this year, making our selection very difficult. “Each of our honorees demonstrated leadership as players, referees, in the classroom as well as in the community,” said President Mierzwa.

The 2020 Scott Wade Memorial Scholarship recipient are:

  • Kailyn Moran (Maine South High School)
  • Sabrina Moore (Maine South High School)
  • Juliana Moore (Maine South High School)
  • Nikolaus Ryczek (Maine East High School)
