Park Ridge (May 15, 2019) – Four individuals were honored with a Scott Wade Memorial Scholarship by Park Ridge Soccer Club at the 2019 Maine South Senior Honors Night.
“For 23 years Park Ridge Soccer Club has been recognizing seniors for their impressive involvement in soccer – as referees and players. With this year’s 4 honorees there have been 82 recipients of Scott Wade Scholarships,” President Peter Mierzwa announced to the audience of several hundred in the Maine South auditorium.
The scholarship honors the memory of Scott Wade – a Maine South graduate, who played youth soccer, Maine South varsity soccer, college soccer at St. Olaf College and was an active referee. Tragically, while refereeing a youth soccer match in 1996, Scott was struck and killed by lighting. That tragedy led PRSC and other Park Ridge Park District affiliates to contribute to the purchase and installation of the Thor Guard Lightning Prediction System for Park Ridge fields.
“We had another exceptional pool of candidates this year, making our selection very difficult. Each of our honorees demonstrated leadership as players, referees, in the classroom as well as in the community,” said President Mierzwa.
