To PRS parents and coaches.
A capital development fee was instituted back in 2000 by Park Ridge Soccer to provide funds for long overdue improvements to our soccer fields and equipment. The results to date include; the development of the Emerson soccer facility, new lights at Centennial field, new & safer movable goal posts, irrigation at Woodland fields, parking bays at North Park and deep tine aeration of all soccer fields. These improvements, all on PR Park District land, have been an essential plan by the Park Ridge Soccer Board of Directors to upgrade and improve the soccer experience for the youth of our community.
Our current project consists of a complete reworking of the fields at Northeast Park. This project, 100% funded by Park Ridge Soccer, includes the following 1) the engineering of the project; 2) a complete re-grading of the of park to promote proper drainage of the playing fields; 3) the establishment of a rain garden to catch rain runoff on site; 4) the importation of proper soils, deep tine aeration and a drainage system that all work together to permit proper drainage to a rain garden; 5) the construction of a comprehensive irrigation system; and 6) the construction of a wooden barrier fence to protect the fields from rouge motorists who damage the fields. For those of you who are interested: A rain garden is an environmentally friendly concept in which all rain runoff is retained within the park boundaries. In a rain garden, high permeable soil and deep rooted, thirsty plants are used to remove excess water from the site. Rain gardens are considered a state of the art approach to handling runoff. The design is in strict compliance with the Metropolitan Water and Reclamation District’s drainage guidelines.
The current improvements dictate that Northeast Park will be out of commission in Calendar year 2010. It is expected to be fully functional in the Spring 2011 soccer season. We are pleased to announce that the project is 30% ahead of schedule and, because of the tough economic climate for contractors, more than 50% under budget. We would like to thank the PR Park District for their professional expertise in managing this important project on behalf of Park Ridge Soccer. We ask for your patience during this year as we seek to improve the soccer playing experience for your children in the future.
