Park Ridge Soccer Club is proud to celebrate the memory of Scott Wade with our annual Scott Wade Memorial Scholarships.  Scott was a graduate of Maine South High School and was involved in soccer on many levels.  He participated in youth soccer, varsity soccer at Maine South, and college soccer at St. Olaf College in Minnesota.  He also officiated many youth soccer games for PRSC.  While officiating a youth soccer game on June 17, 1996, he was tragically struck by lightning and killed.  That tragedy led PRSC and other Park Ridge Park District affiliates to contribute to the purchase and installation of our Thor Guard Lightning Prediction System.

PRSC approached the Wade family about the idea of honoring the memory of Scott with scholarships to graduating seniors who have been involved with PRSC.  Scott's family agreed, and the scholarships were initiated.  The money for these awards is derived from donations and various PRSC fundraising events -- we have been pleased to be able to offer our support and encouragement to talented high school seniors since 1996.

Criteria for the Scott Wade Memorial Scholarship award

The awards are typically given to four graduating high school seniors.  Winners in the past have attended various high schools such as Maine South, Maine East, St. Ignatius, Resurrection, Loyola, and Notre Dame.

The requirements for consideration are:

  1. The candidate must be a high school senior (male or female), who has participated in Park Ridge Soccer Club (House or Travel) while in high school, either as a player or as a referee.
  2. The candidate must graduate high school in good standing in May/June of the year of the award.
  3. The candidate must complete a short application detailing experiences with Park Ridge Soccer Club.
  4. The candidate must prepare an essay to be evaluated by a committee as designated by the Board of Directors of Park Ridge Soccer.
    • For the essay, we would like you to explore the topic: "How has your participation in soccer at Park Ridge Soccer Club affected other aspects of your life?"
    • Your essay should consider one or more of the following areas: academics, character, leadership, ability to work with adults or others.  Draw upon your personal experiences.
    • Please limit your essay to about 300 words.

Selection of scholarship winners will be made by a committee as designated by the Board of Directors of Park Ridge Soccer Club. Applicants will submit an application and essay.  The committee will select finalists who will each be interviewed by the committee to determine the winners.
